Description

NVIDIA Mellanox MSN4600-VS2RO — Spectrum-3 200GbE 64-Port 2U Open Ethernet Switch (Onyx, Reverse Airflow)

Technical Identity

The NVIDIA Mellanox MSN4600-VS2RO is a 2U, 64-port 200GbE Open Ethernet leaf/spine switch built on the NVIDIA Spectrum-3 ASIC, with NVIDIA Onyx (MLNX-OS) pre-installed at the factory and reverse airflow (port-to-PSU, P2C) for hot-aisle deployments. Each of the 64 QSFP56 cages delivers 200 Gb/s line-rate, giving 25.6 Tb/s of full-duplex switching capacity and roughly 8.33 Bpps forwarding. Every 200GbE port can be split into 2 x 100GbE or 4 x 50/25GbE breakouts, scaling the effective radix to 128 x 100GbE or 256 x 25GbE for high-density spine, leaf, or storage aggregation roles.

What This Is NOT

  • NOT a Quantum / InfiniBand switch. Spectrum-3 is Ethernet-only — for InfiniBand HDR or NDR fabrics use the NVIDIA Quantum / Quantum-2 series (MQM87xx / MQM97xx).
  • NOT a 400GbE or 800GbE switch. Maximum per-port speed is 200GbE QSFP56. For 400GbE and 800GbE step up to Spectrum-4 (SN5xxx) or Spectrum-X.
  • NOT an OSFP or QSFP-DD switch. Cages are QSFP56 — OSFP and QSFP-DD DAC/AOC cables and transceivers will not fit.
  • NOT bundled with transceivers, DAC/AOC cables, or rail kit unless explicitly listed on the order line.
  • NOT a 1U appliance. Requires 2U of contiguous rack space and rear clearance for hot-aisle exhaust.

Compatibility

  • Host adapters (typical): ConnectX-6 Dx / Lx (MCX623xxx, MCX631xxx) and ConnectX-7 (MCX75xxx) on the Ethernet side via QSFP56 DAC/AOC or optical transceivers.
  • Interconnects: NVIDIA LinkX 200GbE QSFP56 DAC (MCP1650-Vxxx family), 200GbE QSFP56 AOC (MFA1A00-Vxxx family), 200G SR4 optics (MMA1T00-VS), and 2 x 100G / 4 x 50G breakout DAC and AOC (MCP7Y10 / MFA7U10 patterns).
  • OS / Fabric: NVIDIA Onyx (MLNX-OS) factory image; SONiC (community and Enterprise) and NVIDIA Cumulus Linux 4.x / 5.x supported via Open Ethernet. Features include RoCEv2 with full PFC/ECN, EVPN-VXLAN, BGP, MLAG, and What Just Happened (WJH) telemetry.
  • Rack airflow: Reverse (P2C) — verify hot-aisle / cold-aisle orientation before mixing with standard-airflow switches in the same row.
  • Rails: Standard NVIDIA short / long rail kit (MTEF-KIT-D family), sold separately.

FAQ

Q: What is the NVIDIA Mellanox MSN4600-VS2RO?
A: It is a 2U, 64-port 200GbE Open Ethernet switch built on the NVIDIA Spectrum-3 ASIC, with QSFP56 cages, 25.6 Tb/s aggregate throughput, NVIDIA Onyx (MLNX-OS) pre-installed, and reverse (P2C) airflow.

Q: Does the MSN4600-VS2RO support InfiniBand?
A: No. Spectrum-3 is an Ethernet-only ASIC. For InfiniBand HDR or NDR fabrics, use the NVIDIA Quantum or Quantum-2 series (MQM87xx / MQM97xx).

Q: Can ports be broken out to 100GbE or 25GbE?
A: Yes. Each 200GbE QSFP56 port can be split into 2 x 100GbE or 4 x 50/25GbE using approved breakout DAC or AOC cables, scaling to 128 x 100GbE or 256 x 25GbE effective radix.

Q: Which network operating systems run on this switch?
A: NVIDIA Onyx (MLNX-OS) is pre-installed. The Open Ethernet image also supports SONiC and NVIDIA Cumulus Linux 4.x / 5.x.

Q: Does the SKU include rail kit, transceivers, or DAC cables?
A: No. The MSN4600-VS2RO ships as the bare switch with PSUs and fans only. Rail kit (MTEF-KIT-D family), transceivers, and DAC/AOC cables are sold separately.

Q: What is the difference between VS2R and VS2RO?
A: The trailing O indicates NVIDIA Onyx (MLNX-OS) is pre-installed at the factory. Non-O SKUs ship as Open Ethernet bare-metal expecting the customer to load SONiC, Cumulus Linux, or Onyx.

Why T.E.S IT-SOLUTIONS

Every MSN4600-VS2RO is verified in our EU bench facility before dispatch: boot to the Onyx prompt, all 64 ports link-trained at 200GbE against a reference transceiver, PSU and fan redundancy validated under load, console and OOB management confirmed, and a full cosmetic inspection of chassis, cages, and rail mounts. Anti-static, foam-lined packaging, EU stock with same-day or next-day dispatch, ATA Carnet and EORI documentation on request, and direct contact with our networking engineers for Spectrum-3 fabric design, RoCEv2 lossless tuning, and Onyx-to-SONiC migration planning.
